Ireland’s first luxury train
Ireland is preparing for some exciting news, in fact Belmond is launching its upcoming luxury train, the Belmond Grand Hiberian. The train will host 40 lucky guests who will immerse in the Irish scenery by looking out of the window: green hills, castles and lakes; scenes you can take in without also having to negotiate the sometimes narrow, left drive roads. Beauty aside, the real reason the company is preparing to roll out this train in August 2016 according to Yann Guezennec, Belmond’s Worldwide Sales and Marketing Director for Trains and Cruises, is the chance to interact with the Irish people. “They’re so open, so warm, they make any trip through the country special,” he says.
The feel of the train is light and residential, with colors lifted from the surrounding countryside. An executive chef hasn’t been named yet but meals in the two dining cars will undoubtedly take advantage of the exceptional ingredients Ireland has to offer among them fine cheeses and seafood, along with whiskey and Guinness.
Itineraries range from a brief two nights starting and ending in Dublin with stops in Belfast and Portrush, a seaside town in the north with a top golf course, the Royal Portrush Golf Club, to the 6 night Grand Tour that covers those stops as well as Killarney and its famous lakes, Cork and Galway. Along the way will be private tours of historical sites hours before the public is allowed in, visits to castles, golf opportunities on some of the country’s 300 courses and, naturally, pubs. Passengers are greeted with trays of cocktails and musicians welcoming them back onboard.
